Between May 1987 and March 1988, I published a number of conundrum riddles and wordsearches in the
Voice newspaper. I had no dealings with the publication myself, they were all submitted through an agency, but Winston, the guy who ran it, had great expectations and high hopes for his humble client. Twenty years and more on, his even more humble client has long since had all such hopes dashed.
In addition to writing riddles - probably a couple of thousand in all - and a few wordsearches, I tried my hand at devising other puzzles. Chainwords was about the best of them. The scan here is of my handwritten introduction to the concept. I can't remember if I gave any to Winston, and if I did I doubt he did anything with them. So today, two decades and more on, the world is at last introduced to the CHAINWORD.
